Atheists Helping the Homeless Volunteers

Origins

We are a Humanist group of volunteers that includes people with multiple belief systems. After speaking to people experiencing homelessness, we realized that they needed small hygiene items (socks, underwear, feminine hygiene products, and toiletries) as well as small packages of nonperishable food. We started distributing Hygiene Kits in mid-2021 with one table and a few items to distribute. We had one volunteer to attend that table, and we served about 35 clients that day. Now we serve up to 100 clients at some events. We have distributed to people experiencing homelessness in Georgetown, Washington DC and in Silver Spring MD.

We became an IRS recognized  501(c)(3) organization in November 2021.

We distribute items to our clients on the second Saturday of each month. We distribute numerous hygiene items including socks, soap, safety razors, deodorant, nail clippers, and more.
